13 hours and counting at Logan Airport

20 12 2007

So its 9 am and I’m sitting in Logan airport waiting to fly home for winter break. I woke up at 7:10 am for my 7:30 flight and obviously didn’t make it. The worst part is that all the planes are delayed because its snowing in Boston so there is a good chance that my flight hadn’t actually left when I got to the airport.

The women that talked to on the phone to rebook my flight was very nice and she booked me on a 10:17 flight that connects through Cincinnati. I don’t think that flight is going to be on time, but its the best that I could do.

So now its 8pm and I’m still at Logan airport. It turns out that my original flight didn’t leave on time as I expected. I was able to get a seat on that flight….bad decision. We boarded the plane for the second time at noon and sat on the runway until 4. We had to have the plane de-iced twice. It was such a long time that we were able to watch the entire in flight movie while still at the gate. Once we did get on the runway our pilots were timed out, they couldn’t legally fly because they had been working so long.

I was able to book a seat on the 5:50pm BOS to LAX flight (notice that it’s 8pm right now) and we are still at the gate. Hopefully this plane makes it out in the near future. I’ll probably be getting into LA around 12 or 1 am which means that ill only be 13 hours late from my original arrival time.

The Delta rebooking people were really nice and actually gave competent advice. It’s just unfortunate that Delta and Logan Airport have absolutely no idea how to run an airport that has snow.

My day:
Arrive 7:30 am
3.5 hours in waiting area
5 hours on tarmac (flight cancelled)
1 hour booking new flight
2 hours in waiting area
1.5+ hours on tarmac

Finals week

18 12 2007

Well its finally the last week of school and I am really looking forward to going home. Its been really easy to be lazy because my only final is on wednesday. I studied a little on Sunday night, and then for a couple of hours each Monday and today. I’m pretty worried about the final because its open note which usually means that the questions are hard. I think I’ve prepared enough but probably will spend a few hours more tonight.

Friday night was christmas dinner, and that was a really fun event like usual. We started off with a dinner which wasn’t as good as the last few years, but it was still good to see the pledge class working together. Campo got me a nice red sox jacket which should work out well since I am staying in Boston for the next few years.

For some reason I got up really early the next day and just started watching movies. I started with Harry Potter, then I watched Tears of the the Sun, Bourne Supremacy, and Bourne Ultimatum. Finally at 11pm we went and saw I am legend. Thats 5.5 movies in one day! Not the most exciting birthday, but I guess it was better than having to study for finals.

Not much has gone on since saturday. Just really hoping this final goes well and that I have an enjoyable winter break.

Last day of classes

13 12 2007

On Tuesday we gave our final 2.672 presentation. It was a little bit too short, but it was really the last thing I had to do before finals. It was really nice to be over with because I didn’t enjoy that class at all. 4 hours in lab is much too long for me.

Classes ended on Wednesday and we went out for another end of 2.009 celebration. Later that night in went to the Alpha Phi formal with Kate. It was held at the Hyatt on campus and was a pretty fun time. The most amazing part was that we had 16 sigma Chis there and we only have like 33 actives in the house. Even Aman was there.

End of 2.009

11 12 2007

The term is finally coming to an end and its been a really busy week. Monday night was the final 2.009 presentation. Our group was really happy with how our product turned out even though we got low scores from the audience. Most of the team went out to the thirsty after. It was a great chance to celebrate being done.

Here is a link to our final presentation video and slides.
